Holistic thinking
I have had an interesting time trying to think about the word Holistic, and what it represents to me. It is a very deep subject, no matter how I look at it. I know many look at holistic as alternative ways of doing things. They think of tarot card readers, crystal healers, and people using stones to align your chi. While some of this can be seen as holistic. There is a much more realistic and less alternative thought to holistic.
Holistic is anything to do with making you whole. Not just alternative thinking, but integrating all treatments to serve and complete the whole. The whole meaning; body, mind, and spirit. As a Shaman, I look at helping and healing as more than just a treatment of the physical. Your spirit can use help and healing also. And not just because you went through a traumatic event, although that can be a factor.
There are many aspects of holistic therapy. Yes, holistic therapy can help with pain management for those who have chronic pain. Most people think that would mean treating the physical by touch therapies, but it means so much more. Pain has memory, and that memory needs to be dealt with also. We have all heard of someone who has had an amputation complaining about phantom limb pain. That of course is the extreme and easy way to see this. But what about someone with something that caused a need for joint repair, like a bullet going through a joint, or coming down hard from a fall. That joint can hold that memory of that pain long after the event that caused it has past, and been treated.
Many people who have gone through events that have caused them physical trauma and pain, a lot of times find the pain doesn’t go away so quick, if ever.  And sometimes the sights where they were injured, even after treatment, get worse over time. This is where holistic treatment should come in. I have counseled clients who have had pain in areas, and that pain won’t go away. Using my counseling technique, I have found that getting rid of the memory of pain in a specific body part or place, is actually quick and easy. Sometimes, because of the way the pain was made, it can may take more than one session, but that comes from horrific events, and usually warrant counseling on those events alone.(ie, battle trauma, car accidents, ect.)
Holistic therapies can do so much for so many. As a child I was quite energetic, and was always scraping my knees, arms, or who knows what. When I went through Shamanic counseling myself, I actually found that my body still carried those pain memories, and they were building up in me, causing me those aches and pains, on top of my more recent problems. So I had to wonder, if I had all that building up, and had I not taken care of it then, what kind of problems it would have caused me even later in life had I done nothing about it.
Yes, the touch treatments that holistic therapies offer are genuinely helpful. I myself have had need of them on more than one occasion.  And yes, I do go to a western medicine doctor on a regular basis. But I believe in integration of all medicines, for the healing of the whole. Many therapies get over looked.
I do bring up my form of counseling as a form of healing the whole self. Most agree that what I say has merit, but say they just don’t have the time. That is the reason I made these recordings, so you can help yourself, and it doesn’t take much time. Less than one hour a week, minimum, it is time you devote to the part of the whole, which most people ignore. If you have any questions of feedback, please don’t hesitate to post on my facebook page.
